To cap off my fieldwork in New Mexico, myself and the lovely miss Olivia DaRugna visited the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. The Bosque, famous for its influx of Sandhill cranes and waterfowl during the winter months, did not fail to disappoint. Although we were a bit early for the peak numbers of cranes, we were treated to thousands of pintails, snow geese, and a seemingly endless supply of white-crowned sparrows. Ultimately, life really is not that hard surrounded by sandhill cranes. Here is my favorite digiscope shot of the cranes (featuring a few scene-stealing blackbirds).
