Sora – Photo Study

The Sora is a fairly common species in the proper habitat. I have heard them call at many different places around the country. However, it took me a long time to see one let alone get a photo of one. On the morning of May 29th, Anna and I stopped along a road near Ashton, Idaho. There happened to be a fairly large area on both sides of the road with wet grass and cattails, and I thought it looked great for Soras. After playing a Sora’s call twice, an adult Sora appeared at the edge of the marsh. We quietly sat along the road and took photos as the beautiful Sora foraged nearby in the cattails while two others were calling nearby! Finally, I was able to get decent shots of this secretive bird!
