There is a Northern Shrike hanging out at Upper Green’s Run at Bald Eagle State Park. It always seems to be perching by the road when I drive past there and I got this video of it the other day. Most of the time when I was watching it, the shrike was doing the characteristic tail bob but it seemed … Read More

I ran out to Bald Eagle State Park today to do some birding and hopefully find the shrikes that have been reported in the park. Most people have been able to find the shrike that is hanging around the park entrance and the campground area although it covers a lot of area and can be tricky to find, especially with … Read More

The Northern Shrike has finally been found at Bald Eagle State Park! I had been searching all over for it at the park for about the last two months but apparently not hard enough. There is an extensive amount of shrubby habitat that looks suitable for the shrike so we shall see how easy it is to relocate over the … Read More

American Tree Sparrow

American Tree Sparrows were everywhere at Bald Eagle State Park yesterday. The boat marina and the new lodge both had flocks of at least fifteen birds. I managed to take a couple digiscoped shots out the car window that I liked.

This morning, friends of mine, Nate Fronk and Tim Schrekengost went to BESP to search for waterfowl. Waterfowl numbers and diversity were down, but they did find a juvenile Dunlin foraging on a sunken road at the east end of the park. Drew and I needed this for our county lists, so we carpooled out there and arrived by 11:00am. … Read More

Hoping the weather last night would push more waterfowl into BESP, Josh Lefever and I went to over from 6:30am till 8:30am. Apparently there must have been a break in the rain last night and most waterfowl had left the park. We were able to find 5 duck species and Common Loon and Horned Grebe, way down from yesterdays 12 … Read More

The rainy weather made perfect conditions for some waterfowling here in Center County today, so around 9:45am Anna Fasoli and I headed to Bald Eagle State Park. We were instantly greeted by 14 Tundra Swans, and the largest raft of waterfowl I have seen at BESP. We were able to find 12 species of waterfowl at BESP. All of the photos … Read More

I had already spent a good portion of my morning looking through the sparse waterfowl at Bald Eagle State Park and was planning on spending some quality time at Jo Hayes Vista, looking for Golden Eagles and Northern Goshawks. This was not to be. Soon after I left Bald Eagle State Park today I got a text saying that Joe … Read More
