As the cold temperatures set in here in Delaware, I often find myself thinking about the time I’ve spent in the southwest, particularly in the lower Colorado River Valley. I’ve worked one summer season with Willow Flycatchers and two spring season territory mapping landbirds along the lower Colorado River. At our field house in Blythe, we had multiple hummingbird and seed feeders in the backyard, which attracting many species of birds over the course of a season. One of my favorites, the Anna’s Hummingbird, would frequent the feeders throughout the day. This one, in particular, had a brilliant, pink gorget, especially when facing the sun.
