Snowy Owl – Chester County, PA

Today, I had a family get-together near Perkasie, PA and knew that was really close to S&W Race Cars, where a Snowy Owl has been hanging out since December 20th. After trying to see this bird yesterday afternoon without success, I was really excited to give it a second try. My Dad and I drove over and arrived at S&W Race Cars at 4:30pm this afternoon. We could see the owl perched about a quarter mile away on the roof of the PJAX Freight Service building. To get a better look, we drove around to the parking lot next to the PJAX building, and as it began to get dark, we watched the owl survey it’s new territory. At one point we saw the owl hack up two pellets – see photo below. Based on the very wide black markings covering the bird’s belly, back, nape, and head I am pretty certain this individual is a female.

Snowy Owl - This photo was taken by Micheal Weney (of S&W Race Cars) the day he found it. When he arrived at work, the owl was perched on one of the cars right next to their shop! (Photo by Michael Weney)
