This afternoon Joe Verica reported seeing Baird’s Sandpipers on N. Nixon Rd so Drew, Josh, and I drove over there to check them out. Baird’s Sandpiper is one of my all-time favorite ‘peeps’, so I was pretty excited to see them. The White-rumped Sandpiper flock that has been there the past few days was still present as well as two Semipalmated Plovers and a Least Sandpiper. We also had a flyover Pectoral Sandpiper. Another nice find was a single American Golden-Plover.
Shorebirding has been amazing so far this fall here in Centre County, however I haven’t been able to get within 100meters of any shorebirds! This has resulted in be not being able to get worthwhile photos of anything. Below is a shot I took last fall of a Baird’s Sandpiper that was found at Bald Eagle State Park.
